Peace be to all

“A man asked the Messenger of Allah: Which Islam is the best? He (the Prophet ﷺ) said: To give food and convey Salam to those who know you, and those you do not know.”

– Al-Bukhari, Muslim, and others

From Ābādī’s ‘Aun al-Ma’buud (عون المعبود):

“Al-Nawawi states: Give salam to those you meet, and do not limit (salam) to only those you know. This is an expression of sincere deeds for Allah and an observance of humbleness; the giving of salam to others is the mark of this Ummah.”

The author then expands the elaboration further by stating that limiting the salam to only those you know is a sign of the end of days, as the hadith narrated by ابن مسعود (RA):

“Among the signs of the Time, giving salam to those you know.”

– al-Mundziri: al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah
